Watching the introduction of Sherlock Holmes, the storyline
is very secretive till towards the end, however you have an
understanding of the genre of the film. They used a special
effect/edit for the titles and credits; they are embedded
into the video, as the camera takes a birds-eye view/ close
up of the floor, the titles and credits appear in the
ground. This was very interesting because the camera doesn't
cut away to show the titles, they are just printed onto the
floor; it’s a very clever way of thinking. The sound track
fits in very well with the introduction, it sets the mood of
the film as a hole, it starts very mysteriously and quick
beat in the action part. We are shown one of the the main
characters at the start of the sequence and slowly but
gradually we seem to catch up with the main character,
Sherlock Holmes, who is running. Before we are shown the
main character we are shown a few characters that play an
important part in the film. The sequence starts of dark at
night where a few street lamps lighting up the scene as we
followed the carriage and the man running and it stayed like
that for the 3 minutes. Different camera shots were used but
the obvious shot was panning and that was very regular, at
the start we seem to chase after the carriage and then we
pan the main character while he is running. The framing used
throughout the 3 minutes was wide capturing more detail but
my favorite feature of the introduction was that the camera
never stopped moving. A few close ups were used with the
transition ‘zoom’ this was used effective especially
towards the end where Sherlock Holmes found the villain, and
the camera kept switching from Sherlock and where the
villain was.
